Outside our small safe place flies Mystery... A snake beneath the forest floor, a whisper: Melusine

What I've learned since 9/11/01
Tags: 9/11

I've learned that terrorism comes in many forms and isn't limited to just one group or culture.  It happens everyday.  We all can be guilty of it.  We can't blame all the problems in the world on someone else.  At some point, we must all take responsibility for our transgressions.

I still feel sad that it sometimes takes a national tragedy to get people to appreciate each other more.

There's not enough candles in the world to uplift the spirit and honor those who have died.

No matter who I vote for president, I think, ultimately, I don't have much of a say in the decisions that effect our country.  However, this does not discourage me from excerising my right to vote.  Even if this war goes on or not, at least I know I gave good protest.

The president is a puppet.  There are other forces, other people in power who influence what goes on.  But again, this does not prevent me from sticking to my principles.

There isn't one great evil in the world or one great good -- the world is more complicated and isn't so simple.  We have to be careful who we chose to make an enemy more so than who we chose to befriend.  Making enemies is simple, but comraderie is harder to maintain.  And I thought the personal relationships I've had were complicated!

I sometimes think that tragedies like 9/11 are planned or let happen just so a country can go to war, but instead of bringing people together, this time it has divided our country.  That old school "let's beat up the terrorists" and "let's blow something up to get back at so-and-so" doesn't work anymore.

I wonder when people will learn this simple lesson: that to be a better human being is to stop beating and killing other people.

True power comes from within.  The power that comes from having power over others is fleeting and draining.  We need to empower others, not beat them down to feel more powerful.

Fear happens, but it doesn't last.  Eventually the fearful become the brave because to suffer is no longer an option.  We all have to fight to survive and protect.  We should not fight just to gain power.
