Outside our small safe place flies Mystery... A snake beneath the forest floor, a whisper: Melusine

This is the lovely monitor lizard who lives at the UWSP College of Natural Resources building. The Argus Monitor Lizard is part of a student project sponsored by the Herpetology Society at the university. He (or "it" I'm not sure if he is a he or a she) lives in the Vivarium part of the CNR building. And, yes, that's me in the video saying, "Isn't he awesome?!"  I try to visit and observe him at least once a week. He's a lively fellow, wouldn't you agree? He kept coming up to the glass seemingly in an attempt to get friendly with me. He kept banging his head into the glass when I kneeled down in front of him. I hope he wasn't bothered by me. My human reaction is to think he likes me and looks forward to my visits!  This reptile brightens my day.  I'm serious.  Those eyes sparkle with curiousity and intelligence.

Here are a few more close up photos of the lizard:

And look at it's tongue!  He was hard to photograph because he kept moving around.  I did manage to capture him in a wink in the second to last photograph.  Gods, I love that creature.  It's the closest thing to seeing a dragon... and that's exactly what I call him.  My favorite dragon.

No whispers - whisper to the leaves
