Outside our small safe place flies Mystery... A snake beneath the forest floor, a whisper: Melusine
My Father and I
I didn't get a chance to get online yesterday, but it's better to post this now or never. So happy belated Father's Day, fathers!
I like to think he gave me my good looks. I got great long, wavy hair and milk and honey skin from him, too. I never sunburn, but like him, I tend to get rashes from the summer heat (so I bake, not burn!). He reminds me that I am a Menominee woman and that I should be good to myself. Thanks, Ray!
As for what car I was in when I was two years old near Lake Michigan, several friends gave me the following answers (or is that guesses?):
My pal, Greg Merkovich, thinks it was a 67 or 66 Chevy Impala
iverness63 thinks it could be a 1968-69 Ford Fairlane.
and mrsminer's guess is that it's an old Firebird.
I actually think that Josh might be right because it looks most like the type. I'm not a big car buff, but lucky me has pals who are! I'll have to confirm what kind of car it is with my Dad. He's all about cars. I got to talk with him again last night and he was so happy that I told him "Happy Father's Day" that I may have heard him weep a tear or two on the phone.
I hope all those fathers out there who read my blog had good times yesterday!
The following is a picture of my father and I.
The time was May 1972...
Back when my mom and dad were still dating.

I like how my Dad really looks proud of me. The way he's holding me and the way his eyes are directed at me give me the impression he was very happy I was in the world at that time, but there is also a twinkle of sadness, maybe regret, too. No matter what problems he and my mother were having at the time, at that moment things really were bitter sweet. Also notice how our eyes match. I inherited those big hazel brown babies from him. My hair isn't as black as his was, it's sort of a red brown, much like my mother's. I also tend to have my father's nose shape, too. You can tell that the apple didn't fall that far from the tree. My father reminds me of old cars (he's spent his whole life working on restoring the classics and most of my memories of him are all about him driving up in a different old car), antiques (he's a big hound for old junk and used to take me to every swap meet and rummage sale he could get to), Indiana Jones (the first movie he took me out to see), and old fashioned, big frosted mug kind A&W Root Beers that are served at real drive-in restaurants. His golden age was the 1950's after he got out of the Korean War and could really stretch his legs and have fun. One of these days I'll have to dig out a photo or two to show you how handsome my Dad was in those days. The time was May 1972...
